how to arrive
Here, finding parking might be the most difficult part of the route!
If you can arrive early in the morning, you can park at the start of the route in “Via Str. Cappella, 1 – Colonno” (click here for the coordinates). If, on the other hand, you arrive a little later or the spaces are already occupied, then you will be forced to skip the first part of the route (you can, however, make it up by driving in the opposite direction). The alternative car park is located at “Via Andrea Castelli, 4 – Ossuccio” (click here for the coordinates). There are numerous car parks here and also a park where you can picnic.
Our advice is to head straight for this second car park as the area is very busy in the summer and parking spaces tend to run out quickly.
The way
The route is very simple and starts from the streets of Colonno.
You will pass the Borgo di Colonno along a paved road surrounded by greenery. This road will accompany you as far as Sala Comacina. Getting from Sala Comacina to Ossuccio is really a snap, and it is in Ossuccio that you will find the second car park we recommended above.
Continuing towards the lower part of Ossuccio you can admire several private and majestic villas such as Villa Balbiano and Villa Monastero.
These are private villas and therefore unfortunately cannot be visited inside, but you will certainly be able to admire their beauty from the outside.
After encountering the first of the two villas, you will stroll through the narrow streets of the village that overlook the lake.
Not far from Ossuccio we find Lenno.
Lenno can only be presented as a small pearl on Lake Como.
The route will accompany you to its pedestrian lakefront.
This is undoubtedly one of the most touristy and popular sections of the route. In addition to allowing you to enjoy an enchanting view of the lake, the area is full of clubs and restaurants.
On hot summer days, it is virtually impossible not to make a tasty stop at one of the local ice-cream parlours!
Starting from Lenno’s lakeside promenade, you will begin a determined climb that will take you to the town of Mezzegra on the upper part of the lake.
This city also has a unique historical importance in Italy!
Not many people know this, but it was in Mezzegra that Benito Mussolini was shot. A historical event of considerable importance that put an end to the fascist regime. If you want to reach the exact spot where this historic event took place, you only have to make a small diversions from the original route. We leave you here with the coordinates of the historical point just mentioned.
After Mezzegra you continue towards the village of Tremezzo. From here on, the route will be fairly linear and will skirt Lake Como almost the entire time.
This section is very light, a real lakeside walk that will take you gently to Griante where the end of this beautiful Lake Como Greenway is located.
