Big Bench

#109 Pietrasanta

Italy - Toscany - Lucca

The big bench of Pietrasanta is one of the few benches facing the sea.
You cannot fail to notice its Green colour from the main square of Pietrasanta.
You will see it there as a little green dot calling to you from afar, while you hear it whisper that it has a truly breathtaking view to offer.

How to arrive

To start the route you can park at the car park near the entrance to the centre in “Piazza della Repubblica – Pietrasanta” (click here for the coordinates) or you can find space at “Parcheggio della stazione di Pietrasanta” (click here for the coordinates). Both car parks at the time of writing (July 2023) are chargeable.

The way

The route starts at the gates of the centre of Pietrasanta. From here you will walk through the centre of the town. As you walk, you cannot fail to admire the sculptures placed in the centre of the square and set on enormous blocks of white marble.

Turning your gaze to the right side of the square, you will be captivated by the beauty of the cathedral, also made of white marble. Needless to say, marble dominates sculptures and buildings in this area!

When you reach the end of the square, you will have to start the climb by taking ‘Via della rocca’ from which the ascent to our bench will begin.
The route is not long, but the ascent has a certain gradient.

Continuing along ‘Via della rocca’ you will soon come to a fork in the road where you must take the right.
From here you will continue for a not too long stretch on a mule track.

At this point it is really difficult to go wrong!
Continue along the walls of the fortress and, after a final effort, you will see the bench waiting for you. From here you will finally be able to enjoy the view that had promised you: a panorama that overlooks the whole of Pietrasanta, with the sea as a backdrop.
You will be able to see the whole square below as soon as you cross it, from a different perspective.

Curiosities

We Pandini had a pleasant surprise when we arrived at the bench.

On a small bench next to the giant one, we found two artists portraying the landscape.
