How to arrive
To start the route park at the start of the route, at the roadside (click here for the coordinates). We recommend that you do not enter the destination manually in the navigator, but follow the coordinates given in this article because the navigator may take you on dirt roads that will take you to a different place. Finally, we recommend that you arrive at the starting point of this trek via the centre of Lajares to avoid off-road vehicles.
The way
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful characteristic treks in Fuerteventura. It starts from the main road and takes a marked path towards the crater.
There is also a paid camel ‘transport’ service at the start of the route. This is undoubtedly a special experience, but we Pandini can only recommend that you tackle the route on foot.
At the end of the route, we are sure you will agree with us!
The path is uphill, but it is not very demanding, especially in the initial section.
Along the path you will most probably find squirrels that have now populated this crater. We would like to remind you that, as in every place on the island, it is forbidden to feed squirrels. In fact, this species is considered invasive by the Fuerteventura community.
The route is mostly made up of rocky parts and stones strategically placed just to mark the path. Nevertheless, some stretches can be a little dangerous. In these cases, where present, we recommend taking the parallel route also taken by bicycles.
The last section of our route is the most challenging, but it will quickly take you to the crater’s interior. From that height you can also admire the entire northern part of the island.
Here you will undoubtedly be able to take some beautiful and unique panoramic photos.
