How to get there

It is not possible to reach the beginning of the Stoos trek directly by car.
In fact, the trail starts at an altitude of 1,900 meters. To get there you will then have to take the funicular that will take you up to the village of Stoos. When you get there you can finally take the chairlift that will take you directly to Klingernstock, where our trail starts.

The trail does not form a loop, but don’t worry. Going all the way along the trail you will arrive at the final destination of Fronalpstock. Here you will find another chairlift that will take you all the way to Stoos from where you can then take the funicular back to the parking lot.

Both the parking ticket and transportation (funicular and chairlift) are available at www.stoos.ch
We recommend that you purchase tickets directly on the site, otherwise you can always purchase them on site.

Useful parking information

As for parking, right near the funicular there is a large parking garage with covered and uncovered spaces.
However keep in mind that given the immense beauty it is a very busy place. We preferred to book parking in advance through the official website that we leave you here.
Otherwise, you can still go and find a parking space in this parking lot or other adjacent ones.

The parking lot where we left our car is located just a few steps from the funicular. Here we leave you the exact address “Stoos – Muotatal Tourism” (click here for coordinates).

The route

After parking your car head for the funicular that will take you up to Stoos. To begin our route we will first have to get to the correct chairlift, which is the one that takes you up to Klingenstock.

When you get to Stoos, just past the square you will see a path going up to the left where there will be a sign indicating our destination. Follow it to the chairlift to Klingenstock.

As soon as you get off the chairlift you will be at an elevation of 1,900 meters. You will understand right away that the trek that awaits you is something unique.

The first part of the road is mostly downhill. Always be careful on the sides of the path because in many sections it is not protected.

Along the way you will occasionally find a few benches or tables for a rest. These areas are perfect for picnicking at high altitude.

At the end of the first major descent the trail becomes a continuous up and down made up of steps. Take your time to tackle it while enjoying the views.

About three-quarters of the way along there is a small bar, serving only local beer, and a fork in the road.
If you want to continue to the end of the trail follow the road uphill. The trail continues straight ahead in a decided upward climb. However, if you think it might be too strenuous, you can also decide to take the other path from the fork that leads directly to Stoos. I would remind you, however, that the trail to Stoos is much gentler, but has a duration of 2 hours.

If you have decided to follow us and continue uphill, we anticipate that it will be a long and hard section.
At times it will seem like it will never end, but rest assured it is really nothing impossible. One step at a time and you will have reached your destination: Fronalpstock.
If possible, we recommend that you make this choice to enjoy every last one of the views.

On the other hand, remember that at the top the chairlift is waiting for you. It really is about the last effort to reach the destination.
Where the chairlift is there is also a children’s play area and a small hut perfect for refreshments.
After taking the last photos, take the chairlift that will take you quickly and comfortably down to the valley.

Tips

The best time to enjoy the beauty of this place is late spring or summer.
We recommend that you use sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
Being at high altitude, the sun is stronger than normal.

Pay close attention to the weather. The weather being at high altitude is very variable: inform yourself in advance so you can choose a suitable day.

The trail is not passable with strollers. In general, it is not a suitable trail for children since some sections are not protected.
Last recommendation, it is not a suitable trek if you suffer from vertigo.

Curiosity

The funicular up to Stoos is truly innovative. It reaches an inclination of as much as 110°. However standing inside the cabin you will not even notice it. A very special and exciting experience!
