The path of the Valerian Road is a path that we absolutely recommend you take!

The route will allow you to discover one step at a time, the beauties of Lake Iseo and Camonica Valley.
Starting from Pilzone you reach Edolo where the road is divided into two variants: one towards Passo del Tonale and the other Passo dell’Aprica.

History and curiosity

The Valerian Road we know today owes its origins to the Ancient Valerian Road.

The areas of Camonica Valley and Lake Iseo, in fact, since ancient times have been crossed by numerous routes to facilitate the transport of goods to the surrounding valleys.

Some of these routes even date back to the prehistoric era, only to be refined and expanded in Roman times. These same paths were later abandoned in the 19th century to make room for more comfortable roads.

Today we can rediscover and follow this ancient road, full of a long history behind it.

Path

Overall, it is a route of medium difficulty, with more strenuous stages than others due to the differences in height encountered along the road.

Along the way you will be accompanied by the symbol of the “V” which indicates the Via Valeriana (photo opposite).
Alternatively, you will sometimes see a small yellow triangle drawn instead.

When you see one of these symbols it means that you are on the right path!
They are usually drawn on walls or rocks along the path.

In most cases the symbols that mark the route are clearly visible, but our advice is to always carry the GPX track with you (you can find the tracks in each of the articles listed below). Some stages are almost completely uncovered by such signs.

The stages

The Via Valeriana is 140 km long in total.
Given the considerable length it has been divided into 9 stages.

The route is one-way, so if you are a traveler who has to return to the starting point in the evening to go home, always keep in mind that the number of km indicated for each stretch must be doubled!

We have divided the first stage into further sections as we indicate below.
The first stage, in fact, is at times tiring given the presence of several ups and downs.
