Wayfarer's Path - Stage 2
Italy - Lombardy - Lecco
The Stage 2 of the Wayfarer’s Path is one of the most fascinating stages of this trail, which crosses the eastern shore of Lake Como, following a path that connects the villages located along the shore.
2.3 Km

Easy Difficulty

Stage 2, which starts from Abbadia Lariana and ends in Mandello del Lario, is about 2-3 km long. It is a route that winds through gentle climbs and descents, passing through small villages, with the opportunity to admire Lake Como from above in all its beauty.
How to get there
The route starts near the main road, so parking directly at the starting point of the stage is quite complicated. However, you can park at the “Public parking in Via San Martino – Abbadia Lariana” (click here for the coordinates).
Since we are in small villages, parking availability is limited, so you will need some patience and, if necessary, find an alternative.
After parking, you will need to go uphill to rejoin the path. I recommend doing the route in reverse, back to the starting point of the stage, as from there you can enjoy a truly remarkable view.

The route
The route is very simple and starts from the Church of San Martino. From the very first steps, you will realize that this is a well-maintained stage, as almost the entire route is walkable on a cobbled path.
As you move away from the Church, you will begin to approach the houses. After walking up a small staircase connecting two paved roads, you will need to take the path on the right, which continues through a narrow alley.
From this point and for a long stretch, it will be enough to follow the path, which will lead you to discover glimpses of the lake, passing behind houses and eventually crossing small bridges where you can see some streams and pass by private gardens.
Continuing along the path, you will find yourself on a paved road. Here, you will need to head left, descending downhill. As soon as you pass under the bridge, take an immediate right. Be careful not to miss it, as the turn is a bit hidden.

At this point, you will return to the main path and, continuing straight ahead, you will reconnect to a road. Shortly after, you will need to take a pedestrian path that will guide you to the end of your stage.
The stage ends at the Church of San Giorgio di Crebbio, in Mandello del Lario. Although it is in Mandello del Lario, it is actually on the outskirts of the town, and the Sentiero del Viandante will not pass through it in the following stages.
At the Church of San Giorgio, there is a convenient fountain to refresh yourself and some benches where you can catch your breath.

Conclusion
We loved this stage of the Sentiero del Viandante. It is much better maintained than other stages we have done. At times, it feels like an urban trail, while still remaining immersed in nature.
